Orkness is a printed manifestation of “Role Play”, a new series of works by artist Theo Triantafyllidis. The artist re-imagines the gallery space as his virtual studio. He embodies an Ork avatar, who uses digital tools to create 3D forms, which are then presented physically as large-scale wood sculptures. This process is recorded through DIY motion capture and displayed on mobile screens in the gallery. By moving these screen structures, the audience is able to view the sculptures while simultaneously experiencing the artist’s digital performance of creating them. The pieces included here were presented in a solo exhibition at Meredith Rosen Gallery, NY, 2018, at Frieze NY 2018 group presentation by the Breeder Gallery and as part of the 6th Athens Biennale: ANTI.
